Craig will be pedalling for our pets around Cheltenham and Gloucester every Thursday in January collecting donations for our animals (including food, toys and bedding) along the way, and sponsorship through his Just Giving page which will benefit our pets in need.

Craig does this on a regular basis for a different charity each time, recently completing a similar challenge for a local foodbank.

When we asked Craig why he was supporting us and he said:

It is a pleasure to do this for the Shelter and I hope the donations come rolling in for January. I have had many personal experiences with Cheltenham Animal shelter, usually adopting cats and have wonderful memories of them.

The last time I used your support was when a partner’s old farm dog, a Jack Russell named Ella had to be found a new home due to a change of circumstances. It was devastating to let her go but your staff were so empathetic and understanding, while also being completely professional and clear on what was to be done. Ella found a new home within 3 weeks! A brilliant outcome for all!”

Craig has asked us to promote a collection service for donations people would like to make to the Shelter this month – please email fundraising@gawa.org.uk and we will put you in touch with him.

Alternatively, please support Craig by making a donation to his Just Giving fundraiser:

Athena is a regular volunteer at Cheltenham Animal Shelter and will be running a half marathon at this year’s Run Cheltenham event on Sunday 1st September in aid of our vulnerable pets.

“Each week I volunteer with the dogs that are in need of rehoming and I make sure that their kennels are kept clean and comfortable until they find a forever home.

As well as being a regular volunteer, my family and I have always brought our own animals to the Shelter to be looked after and cared for by CasVets.

Both Roxy our Bichon and Minx our cat had a long and happy life. They were recently cared for but put to sleep by CasVets due to their ongoing health conditions. As a family it has been a huge loss and we miss them both dearly.

The Shelter have been fantastic in the way they supported us and gently laid them both to rest. Thank you to The Cheltenham Animal Shelter for all your support. Your care and consideration for our much-loved animals and their owners (!) is greatly appreciated.”

Rachel has decided to run 10k in Run Cheltenham on 1st September in aid of our pets in need!

Here is what Rachel told us:

“I am taking on the Cheltenham 10K for Cheltenham Animal Shelter. I’ve chosen the shelter as we adopted our cats from there.

The shelter has been helping animals from across Gloucestershire since 1926. They rescue abandoned strays who have nowhere else to go, rehome pets from owners who can no longer look after them for a variety of reasons, provide low cost vet care for people on low incomes, rehome Police and Guide Dog retirees and deliver an innovative events programme including paw for reading and paws for wellbeing.

I’ve never ran as far as 10k before!”

Angie’s wing walk https://gawa.org.uk/fundraisers/angies-wing-walk/ Tue, 18 Jun 2024 10:53:54 +0000 https://tomb179.sg-host.com/?p=45765 The post Angie’s wing walk appeared first on Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

Shelter team member, Angie, is bravely taking on a wing walking challenge to raise money for our pets in need!

Here is what Angie has to say:

“I am challenging myself to do a daring Wing Walk on the top wing of a Boing 1940’s Spearman Bi-plane on the 3rd August with AeroSuperBatics in Cirencester, to help raise vital funds for the Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

It is a charity close to mine and my families heart, our own dog Ronnie was a rescue dog, I wouldn’t be without him. I feel these animals are in desperate need of a loving, forever home where they can be part of a family. Cheltenham Animal Shelter helps animals like our Ronnie find their new families and love & happiness.

They rely on the generosity of us, members of the public, to help them look after hundreds of dogs, cats and small animals that they care for each year. It costs over £1 million a year to do this and sadly, they aren’t eligible for any Government funding to help them.

I do hope you will be able to help me support the amazing work they do and help enritch the lives of hundreds of lonely pets. Thank you.”

Emily will be running 5k for us on August 10th at 10am at a local park in Mitcheldean where her mum will be measuring and marking out the course.

Emily chose to support the Shelter after her family came for a tour and heard how much it costs to keep the Shelter running. Emily loves animals, especially cats, and she loved seeing all the animals we had on our visit. She is hoping to do an Animal Days experience session over the school holidays – we check daily for when these dates are released to book!

Please support Emily via her JustGiving page:

George’s Woofers are very kindly donating 50p for every dog walked to help our pets in need.

Find our more about them on their website, via the link above, or on Instagram.

George is a long-standing supporter of the Shelter. Having adopted cats from us in the past, the Shelter means a lot to her, and she now wants to continue her support by donating a proportion of her earnings from her dog walking business to our pets.

Izzy and Ruby – sponsored silence https://gawa.org.uk/fundraisers/izzy-and-ruby-sponsored-silence/ Fri, 24 May 2024 11:22:01 +0000 https://tomb179.sg-host.com/?p=45793 The post Izzy and Ruby – sponsored silence appeared first on Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

Izzy and Ruby are both 10 yrs old and in Year 5 at Glenfall Primary School in Charlton Kings.

They have four cats between them – both girls are very passionate about animals hence their choice to support Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

Ruby loves all animals and Izzy is autistic and obsessed with cats (hence having two at my house, and one at her dad’s).

Izzy and Ruby decided that over the three months to the end of Year 5 they would raise as much money as they could for two charities – Children in Need and Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

They have already done several activities raising hundreds of £ but this one will be HUGE…12 HOURS silence…over a school day too!

They are doing this activity on Monday 24th June 2024 from 7am until 7pm – throughout the school day, and the morning and afternoon around it! All under their own initiative and with their own hard work.

Please support Izzy and Ruby to complete their sponsored silence!

HUGE congratulations to Izzy and Ruby!

Izzy and Ruby raised a total of £1,173 after a successful 12 hours of silence, which was split between us and another charity meaning we received £685.00 (plus £136.25 Gift Aid). This is a fantastic achievement and very much appreciated by the team and all the animals at the Shelter.

They recently came in to collect their certificates and have a quick look around. They met some of the pets their donations will help us care for and enjoyed a cuddle with one of our kittens!

I will be taking part in the Cheltenham half Marathon on 1st September 2024 and looking to raise money for the Cheltenham Animal Shelter.

I feel this is a fantastic opportunity to give support to the animals waiting for their forever home. I also adopted a cat called Princess from the shelter 8 years ago and got to see the amazing work and effort the staff put in to help these animals.

The Team at Origin8tive are changing the perception of IT workers by taking on a gruelling challenge. The Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge is 24.5 miles spanning over three peaks in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

The team are doing this to support two fantastic charities:

Cheltenham Animal Shelter who take care of around 70 dogs, cats and small animals, as a smaller charity they often get overlooked with fundraising and this is where we can help.

Walking With The Wounded ‘WWTW’ deliver employment, mental health and care coordination programmes in collaboration with the NHS to get those who served, and their families, whether mentally, socially or physically wounded, back on their feet and making a positive contribution once more.

Show your support by donating and spurring us on to not only smash this challenge but to create awareness and funds for these two outstanding charities.
